LEFT: The Dutch Australian Cultural Centre is grateful for the accommodation provided by the Dutch Shop, at 85 Market Street, Smithfield and pleased that so many visitors to the shop come through, on Wednesdays and Sundays but returning to a purpose-built, permanent home is what is desperately needed to preserve our cultural heritage.

At the last A.G.M. meeting, ever held in the D.A.C. building, in Chester Hill, the board of the D.A.C.C. was very pleased to accept a generous donation of a Karel Appel lithograph, from Mr Jacob van Gent.
The board was then faced with two situations to overcome. The print needed some restoration and that has been carefully and successfully carried out.
The other situation is the lack of a suitable permanent home for the D.A.C.C. and its collection, after the organisation needed to vacate the premises.
It is pleasing to report that, until the second situation (permanent location) is successfully resolved, the print will grace a wall, in the consulate-general, of the Netherlands, Bondi Juncion.
Christiaan Karel Appelwas born on 25 April 1921, in his parents' house at Dapperstraat 7 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. On the ground floor, his father, Jan Appel, had a barber shop. His mother, born Johanna Chevalier, was a descendant of French Huguenots. Karel Appel had three brothers.
At fourteen, Appel produced his first real painting, on canvas, a still life of a fruit basket. For his fifteenth birthday, his wealthy uncle Karel Chevalier gave him a paint set and an easel. An avid amateur painter himself, Chevalier gave his namesake some lessons in painting. MORE

14.00 - 14.15 Ludiek intermezzo
14.15 - 15.00 Uitreiking van het zestigduizendste Wereldschoolpakket door een bekende Nederlander
14.45 - 15.00 Afsluiting van het formeel gedeelte door de dagvoorzitter
15.00 - 16.30 Diverse activiteiten, waaronder:
- (oud-)leerlingencafé
- sport en spel voor de kinderen
- live contact met leerlingen in het buitenland
- stands en workshops, waaronder een workshop schilderen - kennismaken en bijpraten met wie u maar wilt16.30 - 18.30 Barbecue
We willen er een gezellige, informele bijeenkomst van maken, waar iedereen zich thuis voelt. Er zijn binnen- en (als het weer het toelaat) buitenactiviteiten.
Mogelijkerwijze worden er nog onderdelen aan het programma toegevoegd, waardoor de eindtijd maximaal een uurtje opschuift.
Wellicht bent u in Nederland op 30 augustus en dan verheugen wij ons erop u dan te ontmoeten in Almere op de Creative Campus (voormalig BDF-complex).
